What is an AA Member?

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions.

What does this mean? It means you are an AA member if you say you are. All you need is a desire to stop drinking. You don't even have to have stopped drinking, just a desire to stop.

You never have to contribute money to AA, we will never ask you to pay for your desire to stop drinking.

Many people walk into an AA meeting and ask if they belong there or what do they need to do to attend the meeting. They will normally hear something like "Do you want to stop drinking?" or "Do you think you are drinking too much?", if the answer is "yes" then go on in, becasue you are welcome. And guess what, BAMB you are an AA member. And you will remain an AA member as long as you choose to be one.

It Really Is As Simple As That.
