Elected Trusted Servants In District 7

An AA Member that put themselves up for service work are truly giving back what they have received. These tireless, giving volunteers enable Alcoholics Anonymous to function. Through these special volunteer's efforts;

  • People in Treatment Centers find out that there is a place to go after they get out
  • People in Corrections Facilities are able to follow the AA program
  • Doctors find out how to help their patients with an alcohol problem
  • AA Members who need help with translations get what they need
  • AA's history can live on for future generations.
  • Home Groups find out how they can help others outside their group.

  • These are just a small sampling of the results that you can give back to others that which the AA program and so many other AA members have freely given to you. AA service work can be immensely rewarding and it can enhance your sobriety. AA service work does not require any special skills, all the is required is a desire to help others. All levels of AA Services is seeking people with that desire. Many members are doing it right now by volunteering to make coffee or cleaning up at their Home Groups.

    GSR - (General Service Representative)

Considered by most as the most important position an AA Member can hold.

A GSR is an AA Member that each Home Group elects to represent that Home Group at the District and Area level. The Home Group communicates their wishes or desires on how they would like to see the District, Area or AA's General Service Office (GSO) perform, then the GSR communicates those desires at a District Meeting. The GSR also communicates to their Home Group the actions of the District, Area and GSO.

The GSR position is an important step for those that want to offer Alcoholics Anonymous their time, passion and efforts to help fulfill AA's Primary Purpose. Alcoholics Anonymous could literally not function without those members willing to put themselves up for service.

    DCM - (District Committee Member)

The DCM serves as the chair of the the district committee which is made up of the chairs of the district standing committees and other elected committee trusted servants. Also the DCM has a position on the area committee as the committee member representing its specific district. The role of the DCM is to be the liaison between the area committee and the district. Therefore any information that comes from the GSO or from the area is communicated through the DCM as this person is the channel of communication to the district. Also the matters of business and information that get reported to the area committee is delivered to the area committee by the reporting in the area monthly newsletter by the DCM and at the three yearly quarterly area committee meetings and one annual area assembly.

Should there be any open committee chairs in the district the DCM is responsible to be the acting chair for that committee until an approved candidate is selected by the GSR's from the district and voted on by the GSR's from the district. Sometiimes there are area committee quarterly meetings or pre-conference meetings that are held in the general geography of the district. The DCM is tradittionally on the committee that organizes these events and has the added task of making this information known to the area.

According to the AA Service Structure and by directly following the three legacies of AA represented as Unity, Service and Recovery, the DCM has the distinct honor to serve as a loyal worker for the district and represent the needs of the groups and GSR's by fervently keeping our AA Traditions ever present as the fundamental blueprint for serving in the position. Unity is the single most cherished possession we of AA have for without this then we have no Group and without the AA Group then suffering Alcoholics would have no place to go and get the love and support only offered by those of us who too must have other recovering members in our lives in order to have recovery.

Alt. DCM - (Alternate District Committee Member)

    Recording Secretary

The Recording Secretary is expected to attend all District 7 Meetings, take roll call, and to provide each Group and all District Trusted Servants with a draft copy of the minutes from the previous meeting. In addition, the following duties are required: maintain a complete file of minutes, Treasure's reports, and sign in sheets from all meetings; keep copies of District Newsletters, all pertinent communications, and documents. The Secretary is responsible for conveying District 7 news to the Vancouver Intergroup for inclusion in the newsletter. He/She is also responsible for adding a complete list of motions passed during the year to the District Handbook, as an Addendum.

    Registrar

The district registrar's goal is to work as a liaison between the district and the area, in order to keep both organizations current and up to date with regards to the latest information regarding group addresses, GSR, and Alternate GSR names and addresses, Committee chair holders and their information,. We work to inform both organizations of changes, deletions, and new additions within the district. This allows the district to provide current members as well as members new to AA, and those looking for recovery, to be able to find a meeting anytime, anywhere.

    Web Secretary

The Web Secretary is resposinble for the day to day posting of District 7 related documents, notices, events and special functions on the District 7's Web Page, that may be of interest to the District 7 (and regional) AA members. Postings are governed by the District 7 adopted policies and guidelines, as well as the Traditions and Principles of Alcoholic Anonymous.

    Webmaster

The District Webmaster designs the District web page along with assistance from the District Web Committee. The website is designed to be a bridge between AA Members and the AA Members that put themselves up for service. While trying to give information about Alcoholics Anonymous to those who seek it, we are striving to provide communication about the important work that District 7 is performing to help all Alcoholics in our region to stay sober and help others to achieve sobriety.

The District Webmaster is a technical position that requires the knowledge to literally turn words into a picture. However, what it requires the most is a desire to be of service to AA and its Members that has given and is giving him or her so much.
